Aditya Dhawan

The United States Attorney General is the head of the Department of Justice in the United States. They resign when the new president is inaugurated on January 20th, and the next US Attorney General is proposed by the new president. The Senate may either approve them & elect them to office, or reject the president’s suggestion. In Aditya’s case, the Senate obviously opted to approve her.

 

Aditya went to law school with Elizabeth, however, she is three years older than the president, making her 28. Like Elizabeth, she was born to an immigrant family (from southern Asia) and speaks fluent Hindi at home and on visits to India. In the five years between her graduation and her subsequent promotion to the US Attorney General, Aditya prosecuted difficult cases in her hometown of Chicago, Illinois, eventually becoming one of the city’s ADA’s. By the time she becomes Attorney General, she is most known for having convicted the leader of the city’s biggest crime ring. She and Elizabeth are not close, but they share similar political views and outlooks on laws. Their congruent upbringings help them to identify with one another also, and Elizabeth trusts Aditya’s judgment, having seen her and assisted her in court.
